About Big Jo’s

Some of us need a bigger bed.

Portrait of Johannes “Big Jo” le Roux, founder of Big Jo’s Beds

I’m 2 metres tall and 125 kg. I’ve been looking for a bed I properly fit on my whole life.

A standard 188 cm mattress is 12 cm shorter than I am. An extra-length one is exactly my height, with nothing to spare. So I stopped looking and started building.

Why 210 cm?

  • Extra-length mattressNothing to spare200 cm
  • Big Jo’s mattress10 cm to spare210 cm
At 2 metres, a standard mattress is 12 cm short and an extra-length one leaves nothing to spare. Big Jo’s gives you 10 cm.

Big Jo’s starts with the things big and tall people actually check: the length, the support and whether the base is up to the job. The mattress is 210 cm long and 160 cm wide, with a reinforced high-density core, an ultra-high-density foam layer and a latex comfort layer. It sits on a matching heavy-duty base.

It’s firm, it’s made to order in Cape Town, and it comes in Flax or Charcoal: woven fabric, simple stripes and a small sewn-on label. A bed you fit in should still look good in your room.

Big Jo is my nickname, so the name was easy. I’ve built a brand before as co-founder of The Duchess, but this one is personal. If you’ve ever slept diagonally to fit, or let your feet hang off the end, it’s for you too.
